The First Amendment for the 21st Century: Current Threats and Community Responses.

When:
Thursday, June 21, 2018 (All day) to Friday, June 22, 2018 (All day)
Where:
August Wilson Center and Pittsburgh CAPA

The First Amendment, the bedrock of American freedom, is facing unprecedented threats in a period of rising incivility and intolerance. This disruption could undermine our democratic institutions. Moreover, learning more about the central role that the First Amendment plays in protecting all freedoms in our democratic system in the United States benefits citizens of all geographic locations, occupations and political beliefs.

In response, two free conferences have been organized to increase appreciation for fundamental liberties that are encompassed by the First Amendment: freedom of religion, expression, the press, public assembly and government petition. These rights are essential to what unites us as Americans, no matter our backgrounds or political ideologies. Please join us in re-asserting the inestimable value of the First Amendment. Learn what you can do to strengthen its unifying power in your home community and on a broader scale to benefit our nation as whole.
