Philanthropy professionals in our region are at the forefront of community engagement, consensus building, and leading change – and strong group facilitation is critical to the success of these endeavors. Join GWP for an intensive workshop on essential facilitation skills with the nationally recognized Interaction Institute for Social Change. Participants will learn to facilitate strategic thinking, promote collaborative problem solving and build agreement.

Essential Facilitation is a two-day facilitation intensive during which participants will learn the essential strategies and skills for helping groups solve problems, resolve conflict, and build agreement. Led by Louise DeIasi, an expert practitioner with more than 25 years of organization and leadership development experience, this workshop will provide a solid foundation of facilitation theory and practice that you can put to immediate use.

If your work involves bringing a group of people to a common purpose – a board of directors, a grants committee, or a group of grantees – then you will find value in this workshop. After completing this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Keep discussions on track
  • Design results-focused agendas, group processes, and implementation plans
  • Design and conduct planning sessions and team meetings
  • Use collaborative problem solving tools to make decisions more easily
  • Leverage diverse points of view and communication styles
  • Share ideas, responsibility, and success in a way that values everyone’s contribution
  • Use win-win thinking to resolve conflicts
  • Model behaviors that help others improve group interaction.

Space is very limited; groups for this workshop are intentionally kept small to ensure that each participant receives considerable attention, including both group and individual feedback and coaching. This approach produces immediate gains in skills and awareness. The course will be tailored to each participant, creating the opportunity for novice and advanced facilitators to improve their skills in the same workshop.
