With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic still in effect, early childhood programs are feeling the pinch of hyper cost inflation and a tightened labor market. The result is a significant number of early learning programs closing their doors, limiting access in communities, particularly those that need child care the most. Supply-side strategies that tackle the issue of ensuring every community is served with ample high-quality child options are being implemented throughout the country, including in Allegheny County. This systems-building approach includes partnerships with community-based organizations, tapping into government leaders and resources, and understanding family needs through both data analysis and engagement.

Hear from the Early Excellence Project and the Department of Children Initiatives, who have each developed a collaborative, data-driven approach to supporting increased early learning access for communities in the region, on what is in process – and what needs your voice – to increase child care supply for the Allegheny region.
