"Capacity Building" is a hot topic these days. While many of us understand that arts and culture play an essential role in building social capital, promoting education, and even improving mental health, there is a burning question: should arts nonprofits be lumped in with all others when it comes to capacity building initiatives? Or are there unique challenges that must be addressed and assets that should be acknowledged? You decide!

We will begin with a brief level-set around the general definition(s) of capacity building, then discuss the arts specifically. We will also talk about how the pursuit of racial equity - and recent changes in the diversity of regional arts leadership - may affect how we support capacity building in this sector. All are welcome to this next conversation of the Arts | Equity | Reimagined Learning Network lead by Maggie Richardson from Jazzspace Consulting.

This will be offered as a virtual meeting. Connection details will be shared after registration.

About the Arts Funders Learning Network: The greater Pittsburgh region takes pride in its cultural assets, and the philanthropic community has a long history of making investments in them. GWP members gather to learn about trends and issues affecting arts and cultural organizations, as well as emerging approaches to strengthening this vital sector of the community.

We are committed to making GWP meetings accessible to all members. If you have questions, or if an accommodation would be helpful to fully participate, please reach out to Paula or call 412-471-6488 and we will make every effort to accommodate your request.
