What happens when one of the oldest area homeless providers with an operating budget of less than $4 million meets up with one of the largest behavioral health providers in our area to see how they can better advance their collective missions in support of people in need? Come to our funders briefing on October 24th from 1:30 - 3:00 PM to learn the details of how Bethlehem Haven and Pittsburgh Mercy Health System came together to launch:

  • An enhanced set of gender-based programs and services to underserved women, women who are at-risk of or experiencing homelessness, and women who are at-risk of or experiencing behavioral health challenges. The 1,500 women Bethlehem Haven serves annually will have access to all of the services of Pittsburgh Mercy and vice versa.
  • Bethlehem Haven will be a wholly-owned subsidiary corporation of Pittsburgh Mercy Health System, Inc.
  • They have also hired an extraordinary leader to navigate the changing landscape of health care reimbursement. Deborah W. Linhart, who has more than 37 years of experience in gender-based, nonprofit health care services, will assume responsibilities as CEO of Bethlehem Haven, effective July 5.  Debbi most recently served as vice president of women’s health initiatives at Allegheny Health Network.

It took a great deal of courage by Bethlehem Haven to look beyond the short-term and funding disruptions to create more than an organizational restructuring that preserved the status quo. It also is a tribute to Pittsburgh Mercy to move this need and opportunity to the top of their priority list. This session is an exceptional opportunity for examining the funder role in this process, to thank these organizations for their courage to think beyond their organizational boundaries, and see what has developed since July 1.
