Save the Date: PolicyWorks for Philanthropy 2019
March 10-11, 2019, Washington, DC
United Philanthropy Forum’s PolicyWorks Institute is the one opportunity each year for GWP policy volunteers, to take a “deep dive” together to build capacity and strengthen our policy and advocacy work in philanthropy.
PolicyWorks for Philanthropy is a multi-year initiative that helps regional associations of grantmakers’ staff, board and volunteer leaders to engage policymakers in support of a vibrant and effective philanthropic sector. Our vision is that policymakers will recognize regional associations of grantmakers as among the most valued voices and expert resources on issues critical to philanthropy and society.
GWP executive director Barbara Sieck Taylor has served on the PolicyWorks steering committee since inception, including co-chairing from 2012 through 2014.
The PolicyWorks Community consists of 29 regional associations of grantmakers committed to building their individual and collective capacity to work effectively with policymakers. That commitment is based on the belief that:
- Policy work is essential to achieving the missions of more than 4,000 foundations and other grantmakers served by regional associations
- As a group of funding communities located in 41 states, the PolicyWorks community offers the best and only coordinated national network for building effective relationships with elected and appointed officials at all levels of government.
By sharing strategies and knowledge inside the regional asosciatoin network, all PolicyWorks participants are better positioned to educate policymakers about the value and impact of philanthropy in our region and throughout the U.S. Associations of grantmakers can also advise policymakers about potential legislation or regulation that could better support the nonprofit sector or increase charitable giving to benefit communities across the nation.
