Everyone in the funding community is looking for grant impact and increasingly ask grantees to commit to working toward specific outcomes. However, updates in accounting standards (which go into effect for resource providers on January 1, 2020 for calendar-year fiscal periods) may necessitate a review of the language in your award letters so that your grants will not be considered ‘conditional’ unless you intend them to be.

Under Accounting Standard Update 2018-08, which refers to conditional grants, the organization you are funding may not be able to recognize all of the grant revenue if the grant is determined to be ‘conditional’ upon delivery of certain activities. In a simple example, if an organization is funded to deliver four trainings, but only actually delivers three of them, conditional grant language may prevent the grantee from recognizing any more than three-fourths of the grant revenue.

Join GWP and Betsy Krisher, President and Director of Non-Profit Services at Maher Duessel, for an interactive workshop on how to craft language of award letters so that your grants are only conditional by intention. Bring your standard language with you, and you will have an opportunity to review it and adapt it if necessary.

This will be a brown-bag meeting, so please feel free to bring a lunch!
